Careem Partners with Local Female Leaders in Celebration of International Women’s Day 2016
Fashion Designer Sara Al Madani and Dubai Tourism Communications Manager Aida Al Busaidy Become Careem Captains for a Day
Dubai, UAE – 08 March 2016 – Careem, the MENA region’s locally founded app-based car service, today announced a special event in celebration of International Women’s Day. Careem has invited local female leaders to become Careem Captains (drivers) for the day. Taking place today at 1:30 p.m. DST, Fashion Designer Sara Al Madani, Dubai Tourism Communications Managers Aida Al Busaidy and Tanya Haroun, will get behind the wheel of a car and start picking up Careem customers. Each passenger will be filmed while getting asked how they feel about being driven by a woman.
The event is part of a larger initiative by Careem to raise awareness of the important role women play in the UAE’s workforce. In the Middle East, taxis and transportation vehicles have primarily been driven by men. Careem hopes the presence of influential and leading UAE women as Careem Captains will raise awareness of women’s empowerment and role in the region’s future.
“Careem is dedicated to empowering women, and we’re excited to partner with Sara, Aida and Tanya in breaking down the social stereotypes that exist in our region,” said Christian Eid, General Manager, Careem. “This event and larger initiative will both celebrate women and push forward the ongoing conversation of women in the workforce.”
Sara, Aida and Tanya will undergo standard training for new Careem Captains before they head out to pick up customers. Each vehicle will be equipped with a camera for recording and capturing the live conversations between the Captains and their passengers, which will serve as a resource for helping Careem to better understand passengers’ perspectives on women in the workforce and how it can continue to help advance the presence of women in the startup community.
For your chance at a free ride with one of these women in celebration of International Women’s Day, make a LATER booking (pre-scheduled) between 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. DST using the promo code “WOMENROCK.” For more information about Careem, visit careem.com.
