Thousands of Careem customers join movement to make UAE roads safer
May 30, 2016

Supported by RoadSafetyUAE, Careem leads the charge on educating customers on the importance of buckling up

Careem’s bold new road safety campaign has seen more than 5,000 UAE residents pledge to BUCKLE UP in just two weeks. Throughout the month of May and with the support of RoadSafetyUAE’s Thomas Edelmann, Careem is encouraging people to commit to permanently changing bad habits.

“At Careem we are committed to delivering safe rides to our customers, this is something we take very seriously” said Christian Eid, General Manager of Careem UAE. “We have empowered our captains to refuse customers who do not buckle up and still the response by our customers has been overwhelming. We have declared May the month of passenger safety and want to encourage even more people to join the movement and become road safety advocates to ensure a safer future for our community.”

Thomas Edelmann, Founder and Managing Director of RoadSafetyUAE, welcomed the move by Careem. “The message we are sending across is a very strong one. Our aim is to make a drastic change and hopefully reduce the number of road fatalities, injuries and accidents in the UAE, the more organisations and companies that focus on road safety awareness, and specifically seatbelt usage, the better. We are delighted to partner with Careem and will continue to promote this message into the future.”

Residents still have until 31st May to pledge to buckle-up, and become advocates for road safety. In return, Careem will reward all pledgers with 25% discount on their next five Careem rides. To join the movement along with Careem and RoadSafetyUAE, please visit and pledge to BUCKLE-UP!
